Top Gear has selected the Porsche wireless charging solution for its TG Tech Award as part of the TopGear.com U.S. car awards for 2026. In a real-world demonstration, Marques Brownlee, from Top Gear US, was able to view and experience the technology at work.
Expected to be available in late 2026 as an option for U.S. customers, the recently unveiled Cayenne Electric will optionally offer this solution, focused on further improving the ease of charging.
‟This award acknowledges a leap forward in automotive tech that has a tangible and positive benefit to the user experience” said Jack Rix, Editor-in-Chief of Top Gear. “Porsche’s new wireless charging system for the Cayenne Electric works brilliantly and just became the ultimate, and most convenient, EV accessory.
‟Among the many innovative features of the Cayenne Electric, our engineers really focused on customer convenience – and a major step in this was to make the charging experience completely hands off” said Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “Top Gear’s recognition of this feature means a lot to us, particularly as it follows the team being able to test the technology for themselves.”
The Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche to optionally support inductive charging, which is a system that charges at up to 11 kW. All that Porsche Wireless Charging requires is for the user to park above a floor plate, then the charging process starts automatically.
